This may sound obvious, however many people neglect this key. When starting online there are so many opportunities thrown into the face of the new marketer. Many promise overnight riches with little or no effort. Obviously many people jump at these "get rich quick" schemes just to be disappointed and have even less money in their wallet. Hence the saying "it's a total mine field out there!"
This does not have to be the case. First of all, just as with any offline business, it does take time and effort and also proper planning to build a proper online business that over time will make money. Here are a few examples of a plan: find a niche that you are going to build your online business in, then stick to that niche. (A niche is just another word for a market such as: weight loss, make money, forex, etc.) Then decide whether you are going to be an affiliate marketer (selling other peoples products for a commission) or whether you are going to develop and market your own product. Many people start with affiliate marketing as they do not have a product of their own. This is fine and a good place to start. Remember if you're failing to plan you're planning to fail.
Take Action.
Now that you have chosen your niche it is time to take action. It is no good having a plan and then not taking action. Taking action is an ongoing part of your overall plan. It is now the time to put the nuts and bolts together and build your business. First of all you need a place where you can market your products. You will need a website or a blog. Now don't let this frighten you off. Building a website or a blog nowadays is not as difficult or expensive as you may think. There is loads of information on the internet on how to do this. There are also free platforms such as Wordpress on which you can build your website or blog. Your main expenses will be your domain registration and hosting and this does not cost too much.
When your website is up your main focus will be on getting traffic (visitors) to your website. There are various ways to do this. Here are a few examples: article marketing, forum marketing, search engine optimization, etc. I can't go into each of these now otherwise this article will turn into an ebook! Once again there is plenty of information on the internet, just do your research.
Stay Focused - Stick to your Plan.
It is vital to stick to your plan. This is where it goes wrong for many people. They are drawn to all the emails and websites they come across that promise easy riches, and quite innocently they end up "just having a quick look." That "quick look" can often result in a total loss of focus on what they are supposed to be doing which results in less and less being accomplished until finally they begin to believe they had the wrong plan. Other opportunities can suddenly look as if they would have been the better one to work at! That's the big problem that kills so many great ventures before they've even got off the ground!
